The Värmland Strategy is a regional development strategy, something that is required by all regions in Sweden. Both the public and representatives from businesses and organisations across the board were involved in the making of the strategy. A great number of proposals, opinions and ideas were presented. We then combined a concentred selection of these with contemporary social and environmental analyses and the possibilities and challenges of the region.
The Värmland Strategy applies to 2014–2020 for anyone who wants to contribute to the development of Värmland. It will also be a tool for negotiations with the government, national authorities and the EU when allocating funding and investments.
The strategy is also an important keystone for Värmland’s relations with the European Structural Funds Programme. The strategy has four focus areas: good quality of life for everyone, more and stronger businesses, higher competence and better communications. It is important that regional projects are connected to one or several of these areas.
The four main areas of the Värmland Strategy are summarised as follows:
Good quality of life for everyone
We will utilize our location, natural surroundings and culture to create a good quality of life. We will work together to achieve security, sense of belonging and good health for everyone. Our work is aimed at the development of the whole of Värmland.
More and stronger businesses
Regional trade and industry, the public sphere, Karlstad University and other educational bodies in Värmland will work together to create more businesses and facilitate growth of already existing businesses. We will create conditions for more entrepreneurs in Värmland. By turning our ideas into new products and services we will increase our level of innovation. We will intensify investments to enter into a more resource-efficient society without environmental impact. We will utilize our proximity with Norway and especially the Oslo region. We will work actively for new start-ups and for a diverse and gender-equal working life.
Higher competence on all levels
In Värmland we encourage education and competence development throughout life. Everyone should have access to good education based on their own abilities. We aim to provide an educational system with a high level of quality, from preschool to higher education, and where different educational bodies and employers work together to meet the needs of the labour market.
It should be easy to travel to, from and within Värmland. We will provide good alternatives for commuters, fast and easy transport and good broadband access. We will utilize the possibilities of digitalisation in order to manage societal challenges. We will work actively to meet the demands of future travel, transport and infrastructure in a way that harmonises with our goal of sustainable growth.
